In 2008, while connecting and networking with Milwaukee-area businesses on Twitter, we were introduced to the concept of a Tweetup. And it changed our lives forever.

A tweetup
Basically, a tweetup is a gathering of twitter followers brought together to meet in person. But it can be so much more. In fact, the potential is huge. And that’s what attracted us to the idea.

Our first tweetup
Trying something new is equally exhilarating and terrifying. And we had our share of both. We went all in. Our first BIG Milwaukee TweetUp was held at The Iron Horse Hotel with the intention of bringing together our new and ever-growing Twitter community with our established Milwaukee business contacts, many of whom were unfamiliar with the social networking service.

With over 140 people registered plus the local TV and newspapers creating buzz, the BIG #MilwaukeeTweetUp was a big success. The real business potential of Twitter was recognized, and the TweetUp Girls were born. The goal of TweetUp Girls today continues to be hosting and promoting local tweetups, helping everyone network, do more business, and have a great time while we're all at it.

The power of tweetups
Following our inaugural tweetup, the positive energy was obvious. We couldn’t plan the next one fast enough. People recognized tweetups, social media, and social networking as valuable business tools.

A tweetup is a win-win for everyone. The Milwaukee Twitter community gets to hobnob with the Milwaukee business community. Each can learn, grow and evolve while truly putting the "social" into social media and bringing online relationships to the real world. The result is a fun and relaxed evening of valuable networking with Twitter veterans and newbies alike, all enthusiastic about the potential of social media. And the most important outcome of all: Getting more business done in Milwaukee as result of the relationships being built.
